Man accused of sexual assault at Parktown Boys High has had his case postponed

NEWTOWN – The former water polo coach will reappear in court on 11 July on charges of assault, sexual assault and sexual grooming of children.

The case of a 22-year-old man accused of sexually abusing 20 teenage boys at Parktown Boys High has been postponed to 11 July by the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.

The man, who is a former water polo coach and an assistant boarding master at the school, was released on R3 000 bail last year. The man, who is facing charges of sexual assault, assault and sexual grooming of children, covered his head with a hoodie and was wearing dark sunglasses to hide his face.

State prosecutor Colleen Ryan asked for the postponement of the case to allow for further investigations.

The defence attorney did not oppose the postponement but did highlight his concerns that an illegal search-and-seizure took place at the man’s home. The search-and-seizure was meant to take place with the accused, his defence attorney and his uncle. However, only the uncle was present.
