JRA aware of defects caused by sub-surface collapsed pipes in Sandringham
JRA's investigations on Modderfontein Road have revealed that the underground sub-surface pipes beneath the road have collapsed.
One of Sandringham’s frequently used roads, Modderfontein, has become a risk and danger to motorists due to underground sub-surface pipes that have collapsed, which are slowly eroding the road and causing potholes.
DA Shadow MMC of Development Planning, and Ward 72 councillor Daniel Schay, who met with a journalist on June 23, said he has escalated the matter since April.
“I have been escalating the matter since it was brought to my attention. The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) did visit the site a couple of times, but the road is still in poor condition.”
JRA acting head of operations in regional operations, Mpho Maruping, admitted that the agency was aware of the defects.

“Investigations have revealed that the underground sub-surface pipes beneath the road have collapsed. These pipes will need to be removed and replaced with new pipes before any road surface repairs can be undertaken.”
Maruping added that the works have been scheduled, and commencement dates would be communicated in due course.
