This year’s Torah Academy matrics were given the special opportunity to visit Israel over the December holidays for the annual Israel tour.
The tour took over 100 pupils from last year’s Grade 11s from various Jewish day schools and took them on a 10-day trip across the country from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv where they were able to visit the country’s four holy cities including Hebron, Safed and Tiberius.
The spokesperson for the school, Sue Belling said, “Jeep rides on the Golan Heights, climbing Masada at dawn to watch the sunrise, a cruise on the Kinneret and swimming under the waterfalls of Ein Gedi provided excitement and unforgettable memories.”

Rebecca Sarchi, the principal of Torah Academy Girls’ High School, led the tour, with 56 girls from Beis Yaakov, Hirsch Lyons, King David, Maharsha, Torah Academy and Yeshiva College girls’ high schools.
The boys from Hirsch Lyons, Mesivta Shaarei Torah, Torah Academy and Yeshiva Maharsha, were led by Torah Academy Boys’ High School principal, Rabbi Yossi Chaikin.
Chaikin said, “It appears the budget for the annual Israel encounter has run dry and that this may have been the last such trip.”
He added, “I hope that somehow the funds can be found so that future learners can benefit from this unique experience. Encounter offers our youth the opportunity of discovering their roots in our land and finding out what yeshiva is about.”
