Anti-racism week celebrated at The Bridge Nursery School
HOUGHTON – The Bridge Nursery School hosts anti-racism week.
As part of learning about Human Rights Day and anti-racism week – the sole purpose of which is to create a broader public awareness of racism and how it affects individuals and the broader society – The Bridge Nursery School in Houghton hosted children from two community crèches.
The children from the Mshenguville-based Siyakhuliswa (which means ‘we are getting a hand-up’ in Zulu) Crèche in Soweto and Ekukhanyeni Crèche from Tembisa (north of Kempton Park on the East Rand), spent an entire morning enjoying the fun and games on offer at The Bridge, which included water-based activities and cycling.
“The little ones enjoyed the water play as well as the tricycles and bicycles,” said headmistress at The Bridge Nursery School, Jenny Lobban. “The children had a discussion during their morning ring time on diversity and that despite our differences we are all the same and can still have fun together.”
In addition, Lobban said the experience was a memorable one that every child could cherish. “The day was loads of fun and the learning was a wonderful experience for every child. Exhaustion at the end of the day took over and a well-earned rest was necessary.”
