Norwood resident, Helen Desbois, wins 2018 Woman of the Year Award
NORWOOD – Local resident Helen Desbois won the Women in Media Award at the 2018 Women of the Year Awards.
Multi-talented entertainer and Norwood resident, Helen Desbois was nominated at the 2018 Woman of the Year Awards.
Desbois is a singer, actress, writer and radio host. She began her career on radio in 2010 as a host on East Rand Stereo before moving on to Chai FM in 2012. She said, “Currently I am part of a dream team with Tony Blewitt at the helm and Steve Smith on sports on Mix 93.8 FM’s Breakfast Show.”

“You cannot fake chemistry on air and we are lucky as a team to have it in spades. Mix 93.8 FM as a whole is like one big family and we aim to bring legendary music and great content to our listeners at all times of the day”
Desbois was nominated in the Women in Media category at the 2018 Woman of the Year Awards. About the award, she said, “I think it is important for women to be recognized for the work they do in their fields and to have the platform to promote and uplift other women in the process.”
On 24 March it was announced that she had won the award for Women in Media. She said, “I am so overwhelmed by my win and elated that I have been recognised as an inspiring woman of stature in the media industry.”
“Hard work and dedication really do reap rewards and I am proud to stand alongside all the other women in their various categories. I can’t wait for us to collaborate and inspire others. I am also so happy that my mother was visiting from England and was there to witness my win.”
