Xenon Beatz does it for hip-hop
JOBURG – Growing up in the city of Blantyre in Malawi, Xenon Beatz did not look up to any rappers in his own country, but to South African and American rappers.
From a young age, 18-year-old Wano Kasambara fell in love with hip-hop.
Known in the hip-hop community as Xenon Beatz, this first year BCom accounting student at Wits University wants to take his music to new heights.
He currently has four singles available for streaming and download on SoundCloud, iTunes and Spotify.

Growing up in the city of Blantyre in Malawi, Xenon Beatz did not look up to any rappers in his own country, but to South African and American rappers.
“Although the hip-hop scene in Malawi is the same as in South Africa, I find that a career in hip-hop is more viable in Mzansi than back home,” he said.
“People like HHP, Tuks Senganga, Drake and Lil Wayne are some of my favourite rappers.”
What he loves so much about the genre is that, like poetry, one can freely express themselves.
“My music is based on reality. That is the easiest way to make genuine music. A lot of Malawian rappers cannot really do that, so I cannot relate to them.”
His upcoming mixtape, due to be released soon, has a message to it.

“My mixtape speaks of my final years of school. I want people to know that education does not, and should not, end when you get your degree.
“I want people to find a mission in life, not just a job.”
While a lot of hip-hop artists always have a beef with each other, Xenon Beatz, said it was unnecessary.
“I see [having a] beef [with someone] as a marketing strategy for some people. It is wrong because music should be creative and not competitive.”
