City Parks officially unveils the revamped Cavendish Park in Yeoville
YEOVILLE – Residents are urged to utilise the spaces and report any criminal activities.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has officially unveiled the newly revamped Bellevue and Cavendish parks in Yeoville.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Infrastructure Development, Nonhlanhla Sifumba, did the honours with a ribbon cutting. Sifumba was accompanied by Ward 67 councillor Refilwe Mazibuko and managing director of City Parks and Zoo, Bryne Maduka.

The two parks are close to each other and Sifumba said they will enable the communities of the two areas to effectively engage with each other.
The long-awaited development started during last year and the parks boast new features for both young and old.
Gym equipment, skateboarding and play areas, stages for entertainment purposes, as well as new pathways, boundary fences and grass are some of the new features.
Project manager Joey Maboya said they preserved the trees to symbolise the ‘old feeling’ of the original parks.
Sifumba urged the community to take advantage of the recreational activities. “Let’s be proud of these spaces for the benefit of our children.
“Let’s not allow criminals to vandalise them and also let’s not allow dealers to sell drugs within these parks.”
At the moment the parks have no security and the spokesperson for City Parks, Jenny Moodley, said Metro police will be responsible for keeping the parks safe.

She called for community support. “At the moment we don’t have resources to employ security personnel to look after the parks but City Parks, working with the community, will ensure the safety of the people,” said Moodley.
Even though this remains a concern for some community members, resident Precious Mohlala said they welcome the new developments. “We are happy. The City actually played a father figure to our children by ensuring safe spaces for them…we, as the community, will make sure we maintain them.”
City Parks, in conjunction with the community, will also establish park committees to manage the two parks.
