The City’s emergency services alleged that about 30 shacks have been cramped into the abandoned warehouse building and suspected that the illegally occupied building collapsed due to lack of maintenance and care.

The building has since been evacuated and the City’s Disaster Management said it would assist those displaced.

Police are still on the scene.

Joburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba described the incident as a devastation and said that the City of Joburg would be working harder to take back the City.
