Rugheimer discusses the Sizwe Hospital project’s latest developments
SANGDRINGHAM – The matter is currently being investigated by a tribunal due to a number of objections from the residents in the ward.
Ward 81 councillor, Irene Rugheimer said the boundary fence on the Sizwe Hospital land in Sandringham has been commissioned by the provincial government.
Rugheimer was responding to the questions sent to her by the North Eastern Tribune following a request for information from residents wanting to know what the current situation is.
Chelsea Rabelo, wrote to the Tribune about her concern saying there is a large barbed wire wall being constructed all along Club Street (opposite Sandringham High School) and it bends around along Modderfontein Road towards the Sandringham Police Station.

“It looks like there are plans for development, but it is well known that this land is not to be developed due to the many old graves and the possibility of Anthrax being released into the air on excavation,” said Rabelo.
“Can you please provide the community with more information on the activities planned for this fenced-off area?This is very distressing.”
Responding to the concern, Rugheimer said they have been told that the Gauteng Department of Human Settlement has given the developer permission to fence the property to prevent land invasion.
“However. We have not been able to confirm with the province.
“The final outcome of the tribunal [commissioned to investigate the objections from some residents in the ward] is yet to be confirmed,” said Rugheimer.
The councillor said the Department of Human Settlement has been handling the property.

She said objectors are all aware of the current situation adding that until she is made aware of the results of the tribunal, she doesn’t know anything.
“I really have nothing I can communicate to the residents. No one was informed about the fencing,” she said.
The project is earmarked for a mixed housing project to enable the local residents adequate houses.
