City of Joburg proud host of the 2018 Back to the City festival
JOBURG – Annual hip-hop festival continues to attract revellers.
Back to the City, the biggest hip-hop festival in Africa continues to attract scores of revellers, with 25 000 people expected to flock to Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown on Freedom Day.

The festival, now in its 12th year, features 60 artists, 30 DJs, graffiti artists, break-dancers, BMX riders, skaters, 10 live bands, freestyle football and food and fashion stalls. The festival has come to represent the pinnacle of artistic expression.
“As a City, we are thrilled to be part of this exciting initiative that profiles young creatives through the arts. We are excited to showcase the City as a point of convergence for national and international artists,” said Nonhlanhla Sifumba, MMC for Community Development.
Sifumba said the festival’s distinctive blend integrates different visions which promote social cohesion and are in line with the City’s inner city rejuvenation plan.

“This is one of the times that the inner city comes alive with true freedom of expression, providing a destination for hip-hop fans and artists to converge and celebrate the experience of hip-hop and youth culture,” Sifumba said.
