JOBURG – Get ready for a memorable Freedom Day weekend.
The weekend’s looming fun times have come earlier this week. As we technically ended off the week yesterday, City Buzz has once again decided to scour loads of exciting events that will be on this Freedom Day weekend and give you our top five picks for a memorable weekend.
28 April: Therapy Presents Euphoria JHB
Therapy Clubbing will be the official hosts of the international clubbing sensation Euphoria as part of the Mile High World Tour taking place this year. With Newtown’s very own Carfax hosting one of the events, the Euphoria parties are scheduled to continue the legacy of this already world-famous party brand.
The party features two impressive dance floors, two international DJs, as well as the unstoppable Therapy residents in action in the Hotbox Main Room inside the venue, and a Therapy Lite Street Party.
27 April: Back to the City Festival 2018
Freedom Day ushers in the annual Back to the City festival, taking place at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown.
The festival, now in its 12th year, features 60 artists, 30 DJs, graffiti artists, break-dancers, BMX riders, skaters, 10 live bands, freestyle football and food and fashion stalls. The festival has come to represent the pinnacle of artistic expression with scores of revellers expected to celebrate hip-hop and youth culture.
28 April: The Little One
The Little One is a true story of a group of homeless children living on the tough streets of Durban. The drama focuses on an abandoned girl at a train station and an event that would change the children’s lives forever.
Writer/director Tshabalira Lebakeng takes the audience on a journey back to when he was a street child living in Durban. Interwoven into his story are the experiences and testimonies of the young cast, who know the betrayal of family and the daily grind of poverty to survive.
28 April: Lets Play Outside Fest 2018
All about street culture in the streets of Braamfontein, Lets Play Outside Fest is the only street culture festival put together by more than a 100 street artists. The second instalment of the fest promises to be bigger and better. Attendees can expect anything from art, food and music to streetwear. Get to know what the cool kids in Braam are doing and where they get their inspiration from.
29 April: Screening Of Wonderlus
Head on to The Bioscope in Maboneng for an amazing screening of the Wonderlus movie. Bring the whole family or simply tag your friends along to watch this great film, directed by Johan Cronje.
