Contemporary art show at JAG
JOHANNESBURG – The !Kauru Contemporary African Art exhibition will be running at the Johannesburg Art Gallery from 24 May to 24 June.
!Kauru Contemporary African Art will be hosting the exhibition Close at the Johannesburg Art Gallery from 24 May to 24 June.
The exhibition will be curated by Zingisa Nkosinkulu from South Africa, Violet Nantume from Uganda, and Nyambura Waruingi from Kenya. Currently in its 7th year, !Kauru Contemporary African Art promotes cultural diversity and stimulates discourse about issues affecting the continent using contemporary visual arts.
Close features works by 11 established and emerging artists from Africa and the African diaspora including Lungiswa Gqunta, Yaye Kassamali, Stacey Gillian Abe, Lady Skollie, Jenny Nijenhuis, Henry ‘Mzili’ Mujunga, Nondumiso Msimanga, Athi-Patra Ruga, Neo Musangi, Minette Vári and James Muriuki.
The exhibition will explore themes of proximity, intimacy, personal space, tension, between things, perspiration, violence, discomfort, gender binaries and breathlessness.
All programmes are free and open to the public at the Johannesburg Art Gallery in Joubert Park.
