Mrs South Africa contestants support small garden site

The semi-finalists in the Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa pageant are appealing to the local community to engage with the Ntsiki Garden Site in Sandringham.

The contestants paid a visit to the site on 19 May. Contestant and Highlands North resident, Rakhee Seevnarayan, said that the garden site is an important place to raise awareness of recycling.

The Ntsiki Garden Site is one of Pikitup’s 48 sites across Johannesburg offering disposal of light garden refuse. The site is one of the Pikitup Garden Sites that also offer the transfer of reclaimable materials such as cans, plastic and paper.

The Mrs South Africa contestants chose to support the garden site, which is situated at the Pikitup site on Club Street in Sandringham, as it is a small business focused on recycling, and is the only source of income for the workers at the site.

Seevnarayan added that that the site is important as it gives residents and businesses in the area a place to hand over their paper, plastic and can among other materials.

Contestant and Savoy Estate resident Jaysh Sunker said, “We appeal to the residents and ask for the community’s involvement, plus businesses in the area, to assist in making this a huge success, essentially raising funds for the small business.”
