Fashion is part of the 2018 World Cup as much as world-class athleticism, national pride and football superiority.
Kits are an essential part of world football – kits that display national symbols and ultimately set each team apart. Some kits may be appalling while others are to die for and would make an essential part of any sports lover’s wardrobe.
City Buzz decided to go through all 32 teams’ kits to come up with the top five coolest and trendiest kits.
- Nigeria
One of the World Cup’s anticipated kits, Nigeria’s kit sold out in a Nike flagship store in Lagos quicker than anyone could say ‘Super Eagles’. The kit is eccentric and off-the-wall with a mixture of cool green, white, and black.
- Portugal
Portugal is not only fortunate enough to have Cristiano Ronaldo lead the team but the kit’s simple lush red and smart-looking green collar is tip-top minimalist accentuated by the Portuguese’s iconic emblem.
- Japan
One of the world’s fashion capitals, Japan chose to embroider their flag on a patterned blue background going against the plain and boring white-and-red colour scheme.
- Brazil
Brazil has stayed with the same colour for as long as they have been dominating world football. Their kits are usually simple and beautiful – a popping yellow and bits of green are Brazil’s thing.
- Argentina
One of the few teams that still use the pastel colour combination and use of vertical lines on their kits, Argentina’s kit just has this mystique about it or maybe it’s just Lionel Messi’s football wizardry.
