Highlands Park U14 ended the season on a high after defeating Alberton FC U14 4-0 in a league match on September 20.

Parents and supporters came out in numbers to support their respective teams for the last time this season.

Both teams put up a tough fight in the first half before Highlands Park were awarded a penalty to open the scoring. The home side went on to score three more for the 4-0 result.

Highlands Park team manager Stephen Kangisser reflected on the squad’s progress: “I have been managing the team since the boys were five years old. I’ve seen players come and go, but today they played well. I am proud of the team because, even though they’re a B team, they play league games against A teams.”

Kangisser added that the squad was unbeatable in the first half of the season but lost its way in the second half by dropping a few games, making it refreshing to finish on a high.

Alberton FC coach Sizwe Radebe said his team could have played better but he was proud of their efforts.

“The game was brilliant, even though I had moments of frustration born out of passion when the boys were not playing as they do in training. Highlands played well, although there was one offside call, but it was part of the game,” said Radebe.

Highlands Park coach Nkululeko Dlamini described the performance as exceptional.

“The boys executed the game plan we spoke about, which was clean and simple football. This included everyone understanding their roles and playing as a team, especially after a rocky season where we lost games we should have won,” said Dlamini.

He concluded that the 4-0 result was a victory the team had been working towards, after drawing with the same opponent in their previous encounter.
