The children of the state of the art Nokuthula Centre and Special School for learners with special education needs (LSEN) in Lyndhurst have finally relocated to their new school after months of delay.
DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Education Khume Ramulifho said following the repeated pressure of the Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi the children were relocated from their old school in Marlboro on 20 August.

The school was officially opened in October last year by Lesufi as well as the Gauteng Premier David Makhura and the MEC for Infrastructure Development, Jacob Mamabolo in Lyndhurst costing approximately R300 million.
Ramulifho said, “This state of the art school, designed for learners with special needs had been abandoned and left to gather dust for almost eleven months.
“The DA has visited the school twice following its official opening.”
He added that the school was closed due to the Gauteng Education Department sending a request for approval after the school’s construction had finished without following the correct processes for approval.

Spokesperson for the Gauteng Education Department Steve Mabona said that the youngsters had been moved in with teaching and learning continuing at the school. “Orientation continues so that learners get used to this huge institution.”
Ramulifho concluded, “The DA has urged the MEC to forge a strong relationship with municipalities to ensure that zoning, rezoning and plans approval process is properly done. This will speed up school infrastructure projects development.”
