WATCH: Bonang Matheba film to premiere at Manchester Film Fest

JOBURG – Film follows media personality’s pubic figure status and influence on social media.

Starring Bonang Matheba, Sebastian Tribbie and Donterio Hundon, Public Figure is an exploration of society’s increasing obsession with social media. The insightful documentation of social media use and addiction invites the viewer to question if what they see online is reality or a complete delusion.

As it closely examines the addictive tendencies caused by social media, the film follows the lives of our established Instagram influencers around the globe – beginning in New York all the way to Los Angeles, Toronto, Vancouver and Johannesburg.

Throughout the film, the influencers detail how they’ve turned their lives into enterprises while voicing their personal concerns about the addiction that comes with social media fame. At the same time, clinical psychologists and counsellors divulge the short-and long-term effects of social media and real-life interaction.

The documentary is set to premiere at the Manchester Film Festival on 9 March and will see the audience reflect on their personal social media use, but also question how reality is perceived.
