Auditions for new Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices competition coming to Joburg
JOBURG – The new reality talent search show, Amazing Voices is set to unearth musician hopefuls from four African countries in a historic battle of the genres.
Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices, a pan-African singing competition, seeks to unearth unsigned talent across three genres including gospel, pop and rhythm and blues (RnB) with amazing voices.
Viewers of DStv, GOtv and Africa Magic from Kenya, Ghana, South Africa and Zimbabwe will get to witness a historic talent search reality show next year.
The singing competition will premiere on the small screen with contestants from nine African cities – Accra, Kumasi, Mombasa, Nairobi, Bulawayo, Harare, Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg – squaring off against each other for the grand prize of $100 000 (around R1.5 million).
The show will run for 13 weeks until 5 April next year, with auditions already started in Ghana on 1 October this year.
Music industry selectors from each of the four countries will select three groups from each genre after mass auditions to steer them through the elimination round before the winning group is chosen.
M-Net CEO Nkateko Mabaso said, “Reality TV will never be the same again! Amazing Voices will take viewers on the musical journey with hopefuls from four African countries set to showcase their talents across three genres. The show will kick off with mass auditions before celebrated mentors select three groups of singers to advance to the home ground battle, which will be the elimination stage. After the elimination phase, three groups will advance to the grand stage where they will sing it out to win the main prize.
