Ward 117 councillor  warns joggers to stay alert of criminals along Delta Park

CRAIGHALL PARK – Residents are advised to jog in groups in the mornings and evenings to help combat crime along the Spruit.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck has expressed his concerns over the attacks that have been taking place along the spruit at Delta Park.

“Another Delta Park (spruit) attack reported on Tuesday morning 10 March around 6.30am. This attack occurred on the Blairgowrie side,” said Truluck on a Facebook post.

“Many residents are aware of the increase in attacks on victims exercising in the early mornings and early evenings along the Delta,” he continued.

As a precautious measure, Safeparks has instructed Cortac Security Services to show visibility in the early mornings on the Parkhurst and Victory Park side where attacks have been reported.

In addition, Cortac is liaising with the South African Police Services (SAPS) and other security companies to work together to combat and prevent these attacks.

Truluck said he urges residents to do the following in order to prevent crime:

  • Exercise in groups or exercise on the road and not along the Delta strip until we combat this crime
  • Join Delta Parkrun on Saturday mornings at 8am (meet close to the jungle gyms) and run with the big group
  • If you receive any communication or experience any suspicious activity along Delta Park, please alert Safeparks on Ward 117 Facebook page and call immediately into Cortac Control Room so we can act swiftly to the exact location of where suspects are to effect a possible arrest.

“We cannot be passive! Be proactive and help Safeparks, Cortac and SAPS catch these unruly criminals,” he said.

“Let us be mindful of our surroundings. Be Safe!”
