A district to live, work, walk and play in
ROSEBANK – Rosebank was hailed as a one-of-a-kind, walkable district by the officials of the Rosebank Management District (RMD).
Rosebank was recently hailed as Johannesburg’s first-ever ‘live, work, walk and play district’ by Rosebank district officials at a Walkabout event, hosted by the Rosebank Management District (RMD).
The Walkabout was held as a way for district authorities to cement the area’s status as Joburg’s most successful City Improvement District.
It was spearheaded by RMD representatives, Lerato Khiba (Rosebank precinct manager), Nicole Greenstone (Hyprop), chairperson of Rosebank Management District, and Justin Bass (Grapnel Property Group), chairperson of Lower Rosebank Management District. In attendance were key City of Joburg officials, neighbourhood stakeholders and RMD board members.
It was announced at the Walkabout that despite recent challenges created by Covid-19, the area has seen a number of recent positive developments. “Cities across the globe need to develop strategies to deal with both the benefits and challenges of rapid urbanisation,” explained Nicole Greenstone, chairperson of RMD.
RMD hopes to mobilise the practical and financial support from the City, to successfully resolve challenges caused by Rosebank’s rapid densification. These include the City’s support in the sustainable upgrading of overburdened basic infrastructure; the establishment of a new dedicated taxi rank to accommodate an expanding commuter population; the eradication of rampant illegal parking; and the maintenance of Rosebank’s neglected green spaces.
The RMD’s role is to oversee the provision of basic services in the area. These include increased public safety and security, pavement cleaning, litter collection, and district marketing and stakeholder engagement with City of Joburg entities. The district is delineated by Oxford Road (E), Jan Smuts Avenue (W), Bolton Road (S) and Jellicoe Avenue (N).
East of Bath Ave is Upper Rosebank, dominated by commercial properties, while west of Bath Ave is Lower Rosebank, with a predominance of residential properties.
The Rosebank Management District is managed by Excellerate Management Services, led by precinct manager Lerato Khiba.
