Langa Mavuso graces his fans with a night to remember at Keyes Avenue.
Singer and songwriter Langa Mavuso gave his fans heartfelt live performances at his three-day concert held at BKhz Gallery at Keyes Avenue in Rosebank.
The three-day concert held on August 26 until August 28, with each day having live shows at 18:00 and 20:00.
The 35-seater live show was jam-packed with renditions of songs from his self-titled album Langa, which he had never before perfomed in front of a live audience.
Born Nkosinathi Nhlakanipho Mavuso, Langa – as he is known on stage – has emerged to be one of South Africa’s fastest rising talents. In addition to his powerful singing gift, Mavuso is well skilled in the art of making music as he completed high school at the National School of the Arts where he studied contemporary music.
Mavuso described performing in front of a live audience as necessary and needed as he could see and feel the audience’s energy in person, which is something one can never feel through a virtual concert. “I had so much gratitude and to have the audience with me and close to me because so much of the show includes the audience. We had moments where both me and the entire audience were in tears which is a connection one can only feel in person.”

His favourite songs for the night were Powerline as he had never performed it before and Love Sick which he described as an incredibly emotional and moving song.
The concert was held at BKhz, an art gallery based in Rosebank. Mavuso and his team found the venue ideal as it could cultivate the energy and allowed him to be open and personal with his audience in a setting such as this.
He described the Langa album as something that takes one through a journey of heartbreak and healing.
“Through this journey we find the the pain of losing love, we witness the self-loathing that is portrayed in the middle of the album and then finding healing and acceptance at the end. It is filled with a pop, gospel and jazz-inspired sound with amazing features from artists such as Aimee George, Manana, Zoe Modiga just to name a few.”
Going forward, Mavuso hopes that life can get back to some kind of normal, one that allows people to enjoy things such as live performances.
“I hope that everyone can get vaccinated and that through their vaccinations we can get to having our experiences as communities of people, to perform and to travel the world again. I’m looking forward to growing beyond South Africa, globally as an artist.”
Mavuso will be touring Cape Town, East London, Durban, Mpumalanga and Pretoria and will be holding the last show of his tour back in Johannesburg.
