Houghton company spearheads upcoming diabetes interactive outreach event
HOUGHTON – The team of the Centre of Diabetes and Endocrinology (EDC), Houghton, have put together an exciting line-up of diabetes-relevant topics for an upcoming seminar on November 11.
Houghton-based Centre of Diabetes and Endocrinology will host a a virtual event, ‘Everything diabetes’ on November 11 from 18:00 to 21:00.
The event will commemorate World Diabetes Day (November 14) and the International Diabetes Federation.
This free virtual event, which Shelley Harris, head of marketing and PR for the centre said was the first of its kind in the country, would provide attendees with an opportunity to interact with leading healthcare professionals who would unpack various aspects of diabetes in themed sessions. It is geared towards people living with diabetes, as well as their caregivers and family members.
Topics covered will include care advocacy, pregnancy and diabetes, management of diabetes, Covid-19 and diabetes, mental health, and nutrition and metabolic health. The audience will be given the chance to interact with professionals through special Q & A opportunities. One of the highlights of the event will be a session concerning diabetes and Covid-19, entitled, ‘A collision of two pandemics’.
“As an organisation that has been operation for 27 years, Covid-19 has changed how we do things,” said Harris. “However, we have realised that the pandemic has also created an opportunity to ‘build back better’ by utilising digital platforms to reach and impact more people living with diabetes.”
She added that information which might have only been available exclusively to a select number of viewers at a physical seminar location, was now accessible to anyone with access to the internet, free of cost.
