JOBURG – As the country prepares for the 2021 Municipal Elections on November 1, many people who have registered to vote are hoping to leave their mark for a better future.
SIVI MDINGI: It's always the same thing in every election. My expectations usually don't connect with the reality of our society. They say that your vote counts but in the real world, it doesn't.

The Sandton Chronicle and Rosebank Killarney Gazette did a walkabout in Sandton and asked the public what they hoped to expect from their ward councillors after the elections. These were their responses…
TYLER MARALS: Load shedding is affecting us. I hope it lessens once the new ward councillor is in position. It’s affecting people who are working from home. I do online coaching with my clients and every now and then I can’t do it. I always have to play catch-up and I usually lose out on other clients when I do that. For new development that will be beneficial for our community and just see more positive exposure for the youth of South Africa. That all lives matter and that nobody should be discriminated against. Lastly, to see that there are no alternative reasons for being in power besides helping the community. I just want to see more young and upcoming people getting these opportunities to provide for themselves and their families. Photo: Comfort MakhanyaKITWA FILS: I am tired of always experiencing load shedding in Sandton, it’s like living in the bush. After the vote, we need the ward councillor to fix this whole issue. Photo: Comfort MakhanyaLOFTA MOHLALA: I don’t know how I can put it into perfect words but I would say that my expectation with the new ward councillor is to reduce the rate of crime in our area. We see people breaking the law, getting out of prison the next day and doing it again.
