Theatre brings crucial message to young ones
Schools are encouraged to book in order to be visited by the National Children's Theatre.
Human trafficking is a modern-day form of slavery.
According to the National Children’s Theatre (NCT), it exists because people, and especially children, are open to being exploited mostly through circumstances which are no fault of their own, such as poverty, lack of education and optimism, and loss of hope.
The theatre is producing an educational programme to help prevent child trafficking, by creating awareness amongst children aged 12 (Grade 6) and older of the dangers and risks they face, and how to deal with possible would-be traffickers.
This social play titled Innocence Lost is based on a shocking, true trafficking story and culminates in a guided question-and-answer session, so children become aware and learn how not to be caught in dangerous situations.
The themes in the play are: there are good people out there, not all men are bad, don’t be gullible and think clearly when offered too much. The show brings an additional message to vulnerable, young teenagers of possible doorways to the future, but they must be worked for.
