Centre encourages learners to be wary of abuse
The Family Life Centre in Parkwood visits a school in Rosebank to share child abuse awareness.
Learners at Vuleka Primary School in Rosebank were informed about child abuse during Child Protection Week.
The Family Life Centre based in Parkwood visited the school on June 3. Social auxiliary worker at the centre Thandi Mayo spoke to the learners and said, “We’re here because it’s Child Protection Week and you all have the right to be protected.”
The centre’s operational manager Joshna Lutchman taught the learners about different types of abuse which include physical, emotional and sexual abuse as well as neglect. Concerning sexual abuse she added, “You are not supposed to allow just anybody to touch your private parts or give you a bath.
You must never agree to take photos of yourself without being dressed. If any kind of abuse happens, tell your parents or social worker or teacher.”
Mayo advised learners to also dial the Childline number 080 005 5555 when they needed to report any form of abuse.
