ANC ward117 members feed more than people
Parktown North's needy residents were treated to a warm and healthy meal by the ANC Ward 117.
ANC Ward 117 members felt the Mandela magic as they spent their 67 minutes giving back to the community.
More than 200 people enjoyed a healthy meal at the Mandela Day initiative which was hosted by the party’s members at Parktown North Methodist Church.
Deputy chairperson of the ANC Ward 117 Joseph Mlangeni said this was their first Mandela Day event, and it was all about building relations with their community.
According to Mlangeni, the initiative was not only for displaced people but for anyone who was going through a difficult time in their life.
“Our vision as a ward is that this is going to be a foundation for us to rebuild our relations with our community as we are now living in post-Covid-19 times,” he said.
Parktown North Methodist church caretaker Maria Ilieva said Mandela Day helped many people, and the church had a similar programme that runs every week on Monday, Friday, and Sunday.
“The day for me is very special as I was once homeless and one day when Mandela was alive, he came to me and he was the first to help me. I am grateful and hope these initiatives do not happen for a day only but every day,” Ilieva said.
