Local police arrested four women for assault on July 9.
Norwood Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said, “It is alleged a [female] victim was going to work at a nearby hotel in Houghton when she was attacked by her four female friends. One of the suspects who was holding a brick instructed the victim to stop on the street then other three ladies cornered her saying, ‘we told you we will get you and today we want to kill you’.
“They strangled the lady and she fell on the ground screaming for help while others beat her all over her body using a brick.”
The spokesperson said the victim was rescued by a local security officer who was patrolling the area. The complainant sustained head injuries. Formal arrests were done by the police and all suspects were detained at Norwood Police Station cells. Sergeant Masotsha said all suspects were charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
“The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention. All suspects appeared at the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court where their case was postponed to another date for a bail application,” concluded Sergeant Masotsha.
He reminded members of the public that whoever takes the law into their own hands will face the full might of the law.
