Hatzolah Medical Emergency Rescue recognised for its work
Hatzolah Medical Emergency Rescue is an NGO that helps the community with medical needs without charging a fee.
Bowlers of various clubs gathered in the sun at Killarney Bowls Club to raise funds for Hatzolah Medical Emergency Rescue on July 31.
“Hatzolah charity is a non-profit organisation that relies on donations. The organisation goes out to every emergency they are called out to. They pick you up and take you to the hospital without a fee. This year we’re looking at raising about R150 000. How we raise the funds is R1 600 is paid per team, and we also have company donations and raffles,” said the chairman of Killarney Bowls Club Keith Benjamin.

Benjamin added the organisation had helped communities throughout the tough lockdown restrictions.
“During the tough lockdown they checked and monitored people’s temperatures, oxygen levels and transported people to medical facilities.”

Lethabo Mathibela (19) the youngest bowler at the club said he was happy to make a difference and give back.

“Although I began the sport in 2016, I recently started competing and taking bowling seriously. Playing with older people isn’t challenging at all, I take each game as a lesson,” said Mathibela.

Another bowler, Wilson Malobolo said although he had achieved accolades in the sport, he was open to polishing his skills.

“I’ve been bowling for over 10 years, I’m here to support the charity because I believe in giving back and supporting the good work the charity continues to do. I won the bowling master title for U30 in February this year, and in May I won the National Force and continue to practice to be better.”
