Saxonwold Primary appreciates Gazette for stellar work
The Saxonwold Primary School commends the Gazette for contributing to improved literacy levels.
The Saxonwold Primary School shared how the Rosebank Killarney Gazette has impacted their lives. The school’s principal, Muhammad Khan said, “With literacy levels of learners in South Africa not at the desired levels and the digitising of newspapers – Saxonwold Primary learners benefit hugely from having to read newspapers in hard copies. Our learners wait in anticipation for the newspaper delivery so that they could read about their successes as well as the current affairs of our local community.

“These create a passion for reading which then translates into improved literacy levels. A huge thank you to the Gazette for constantly featuring our schools’ achievements over the past few years and fostering the love of reading hard copy newspapers. Keep up the stellar work!”
Grade 7 learner Bokamoso Masethe said the Gazette has impacted herself, other learners as well as the school by giving them a lot of background and insight about the ‘beautiful neighbourhood’ that they live in.

She said, ‘Most of the articles are short and simple so that keeps us captivated and that is helpful for children with low attention span. The kinds of stories we are interested in are the ones to do with new developments in the area. The Gazette writers write beautifully and I believe that on its own is an art. I would love to be a Journalist one day and hopefully even work for the Gazette.”
