Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg congratulates bronze medalist learner
Barrett Flinner reached the top 5 for individual kata in the 12–13 age group and bronze in the unison kata U15 category.

Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg learner, Barrett Flinner’s latest bronze accomplishment at the 10th Karatenomichi World Federation (KWF) World Cup in Tokyo, Japan has inspired him always to put his best foot forward.
Barrett reached the top 5 for individual kata in the 12–13 age group and won bronze in the unison kata U15 category.
Barrett said he took up karate when he was five years old and was in his seventh year doing it. “My mom encouraged me to join the martial art to help with confidence building and to stand up for myself. I now do this willingly and want to achieve a black belt.”

The bronze medalist added he tried to juggle his extramural activities and school.
“When I am at home, I do schoolwork and twice a week I am in the dojo. At the dojo, I practise and focus on karate, before going to Tokyo though, I was training every day for three months.”
Barrett’s advice to other children who want to take up karate is: “Don’t fool around. Enjoy what you do and remain disciplined.”
