Watch: Park Care Centre residents smile through special votes hiccups
Park Care Centre makes their mark for 2024 national elections.
The special voting process at Park Care Centre, a nursing home in Parktown was met with hiccups on May 27 but residents maintained their smiles as they made their mark.

Some residents at the 24-hour nursing care were told they did not appear on the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) list and are to vote on Wednesday, May 29 although they were registered for special votes.

The publication approached an IEC presiding officer who said she was instructed by the head office not to discuss the matter but directed the journalist to the head office’s communications team.

An excited resident, Moira De Swardt stressed the importance of voting, “The last major vote was in 1994 and I am glad I could participate and make my mark.”

Another resident, Theresa Whelan said she was grateful that the IEC catered to nursing homes so that she could make her voice heard.
The publication will update the story after it has received a comment from the IEC regarding the hiccups experienced at the Centre.
