Rocking Future career expo inspires Holy Family College learners
Matric learners were given a glimpse into a world of diverse career opportunities beyond traditional university paths

The excitement was palpable at Holy Family College in Parktown as the Rocking Future Career Expo rolled into town on February 4. Matric learners gathered in anticipation of discovering the wide array of opportunities available to them after high school. The expo, a dynamic initiative by career expo company 3RC, is about helping young South Africans navigate the daunting task of choosing a career in a landscape dominated by high youth unemployment.

For 24 years, the Rocking Future expos have been on a mission to empower school leavers by showcasing options beyond the traditional university route. This year’s visit to Holy Family College saw over 25 institutions offering diverse career paths. Holy Family learner Mandy Mafomane summed up the experience: “I enjoyed everything that they showed us. Now I know that there are more opportunities we didn’t know of. We’re only ever exposed to your standard universities, and I feel like this expo has shown me so much more.”

The expo aims to not only inform but also inspire. Learners had the chance to engage with representatives from a variety of fields, including IT, engineering, fashion, and even au pairing opportunities abroad. From these one-on-one interactions, the learners were able to gain a better understanding of what each institution offers and how these options align with their individual skills and passions.

“This journey was nothing short of spectacular,” said Kay Cheytanov, founder of 3RC. “The level of engagement from learners and educators exceeded our expectations. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, affirming the expo’s role in shaping future careers.”

The Rocking Future career expos are essential for high school learners in South Africa. Last year, the 3RC team visited 231 high schools in five months, distributing 29 423 copies of the Future Guide Magazine, which helps guide learners in making crucial decisions about their futures.
As the expo wrapped up, learners eagerly approached the various institutions to ask further questions and deepen their understanding of potential career paths. The energy was contagious as young minds envisioned a future full of possibilities.

The 2025 Rocking Future expos have already kicked off with a bang, and the team continues to inspire high school learners across Johannesburg and beyond. With so many options available, the Rocking Future expo shows learners that the world truly is their oyster.
