Parktown High School for Girls diver makes a splash at the SA Schools Diving Competition

Sarah James placed 3rd overall in the U15 novice section and competed in the National Age Group Championship where she placed 4th in the 1m section and 1st in the 3m section.

Parktown High School for Girls learner Sarah James (15) recently represented the school, and the province, in the SA Schools Diving Competition.

Sarah placed 3rd overall in the U15 novice section and competed in the National Age Group Championship where she placed 4th in the 1m section and 1st in the 3m section.

The diver, who trained tirelessly, said she was pleased with her achievements. “I worked very hard and trained throughout winter, so, I was pleased with what I achieved at the SA Schools Diving Competition.”

The Grade 10 learner noted that she began the water sport in Grade 8 and enjoyed how graceful the divers looked. It seemed like a good fit for someone like her, who had a background in gymnastics.

Between club and school diving, Sarah has 6–8 training sessions a week.

Sarah concluded that she had goals of being a professional diver, and looked up to Canadian Olympian Molly Carlson. “I also look up to South African diver, Grace Brammer, who I was privileged to train with throughout last year. She has moved on to Penn State and is a real inspiration.”
