Parktown Girls host annual Gr 8 Games Tournament themed cosmic love affair

Valentine’s Day at Parktown Girls’ School wasn’t just about roses and chocolates – it was a night of cosmic adventure as the Grade 8 learners embarked on a thrilling journey through the Cosmic Love Affair Grade 8 Games Tournament.
Organised by the ever-enthusiastic Potted Sports Committee, the event kicked off the school’s fundraising season with an explosion of energy, fun, and friendship, all for a great cause.

The tournament, which sees learners sponsored by family and friends, aims to raise funds for the African Children’s Feeding Scheme (ACFS). The committee was more determined than ever to make the event unforgettable, putting in hours of preparation to create a night filled with laughter, competition, and team spirit.
The evening kicked off with eager anticipation as the Grade 8s arrived, bursting with excitement and ready to embrace the cosmic theme. The school transformed into a galaxy of colourful decorations, with the learners dressed to match the celestial vibe. Divided into creative teams, the learners dove straight into the action, each station presenting a new challenge to conquer.

The festivities included various games, from brain-bending treasure hunts to dancing marathons in Just Dance battles. One of the standout moments of the night was the search for 700 paper hearts scattered throughout the school grounds – a thrilling race that had everyone on their toes. The event encouraged competition and camaraderie, as the learners bonded over solving puzzles, sharing laughs, and supporting one another through each challenge.
When it was time to refuel, the learners gathered to enjoy some hearty pizza and refreshing watermelon. To keep the fundraising momentum going, the committee also ran a tuck shop, receiving much-needed support from those in attendance.
The excitement carried on into the night as the games ended. The winning team, Pluto, was celebrated for their enthusiasm and determination throughout the evening, earning them well-deserved bragging rights. However, the true victory lay in the unity and friendships that developed during the event.
As the learners wrapped up their cosmic adventure, they were treated to a movie screening under the stars – a perfect way to unwind after such an action-packed night. With smiles on their faces and memories to last a lifetime, it was clear that the Cosmic Love Affair Grade 8 Games Tournament had been a resounding success.
