Rosebank Homeless Association calls for community support as winter approaches

All donations can be dropped off at the collection box located on the ground floor of the RMD office in Rosebank Mall.

As the crisp chill of winter begins to settle, the Rosebank Homeless Association (RHA) is reaching out to the community, urging residents to lend a hand to those less fortunate. The organisation remains steadfast in its mission to support the homeless, but with the winter months fast approaching, the need for assistance has never been greater.

While there is a shelter and various churches and organisations offering crucial support, the reality is that many individuals are still forced to sleep rough during the coldest months of the year. With this in mind, the RHA is particularly in need of warm clothes, blankets, and shoes to provide comfort and warmth to those struggling to survive in these harsh conditions.

To make a difference, donations can be dropped off at the collection box located at the RMD office on the ground floor of Rosebank Mall. Alternatively, those wishing to contribute directly can contact the Immaculata Shelter on Sturdee Avenue, which is always ready to accept clothing and other essentials.

In addition to clothing donations, the RHA is also calling for support of its sewing project, which plays an integral role in providing both practical items and opportunities for skill development within the community. Fabric donations are especially welcome, as these will be used to create much-needed clothing and accessories for those in need.

Tessa Weakley, chairperson of the RHA, expressed the ongoing need for technological donations as well. “We are currently seeking old computers or laptops to support our computer school at Immaculata, as well as the admin centres of various feeding schemes and support hubs in the area,” she explained. These devices will assist with administrative work and enable individuals to gain valuable digital skills, empowering them for a better future.

With just over two months to go until Mandela Day, the RHA is encouraging residents to start thinking about how they can make a difference. “Your generosity, big or small, has an incredible impact,” said Weakley. “We want to thank all those who have supported us so far. Your continued contributions help us keep our efforts alive.”

As winter beckons, the RHA reminds everyone that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a world of difference. With community support, the vulnerable in Rosebank need not face the cold months alone.
