Ahmed Kathrada Foundation’s 2025 Youth Essay Writing Competition entries are open
Youth are encouraged to voice their perspectives on the ongoing challenges of racism.
The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation is callling on the youth to participate in their 2025 Youth Essay Writing Competition Against Racism.

In its 9th year, the competition calls on people, aged 13 to 21, from across the country, to voice their perspectives on the ongoing challenges of racism and inequality, and to propose creative and practical solutions toward a more just society.
2025 competition topics:
• Do we need quotas in sport today?
• How does religion affect racial unity and division in society today?
• Does social media spread racism, and how can young people use it to fight back?
• What does racism look like in 2025?

Entry formats:
• Essay must be 1 000–1 500 words.
• Poetry (accompanied by a 500-word explanation).
• Original Artwork must not be larger than A3, and be accompanied by a 500-word explanation.
Failure to adhere to these rules will result in automatic disqualification.
Prizes per category:
• 1st Place: R1 000 + Laptop
• 2nd Place: R500 + Laptop
All entrants will receive certificates of participation.
