Puntans Cricket Club wins Macrocomm T20 tournament at Wanderers

After a season full of victories, the rising cricket club caps off its journey with a powerful impact both on and off the field.

Puntans Cricket Club has had its best season yet – and it ended with a bang at the famous DP Wanderers Stadium.

The team participated in the Macrocomm T20 tournament on May 5 and walked away as champions after beating the top club, Marks Park, in the final. It was a huge win for the young club, which was started just eight years ago.

Club director Seano Naidoo said the whole season had been special. “We came second in Division One, and we came first in both Division Two and Division Three. But winning at Wanderers was the highlight. It was an amazing moment.”

One of the tournament’s most exciting games was the semi-final, where Puntans faced Wanderers Cricket. Wanderers needed just one run to tie or two to win in the last over – but Puntans held their nerve and won by just one run. “The boys never gave up. It was incredible,” said Naidoo.

But Puntans isn’t just about cricket. The club also helps young people find jobs. Since it started, it has helped 41 youngsters get work, thanks to a strong partnership with the job placement agency MyWay.

“Our programme is more than just sport. It changes lives. Many of the young people we help now earn good salaries, and they can support their families.”

For many players and job seekers, Puntans has opened the door to a better life. The club’s success on the field is just one part of the story – the real victory is in the lives they’ve helped to change.
