DP World Lions women’s cricket team dominate to clinch Hollywoodbets Pro50 title in style

Crushing the Fidelity Titans by 101 runs, the DP World Lions women's cricket team roared to victory, claiming the Hollywoodbets Pro50 title.

The DP World Lions cemented their dominance in South African women’s cricket with a 101 run victory over the Fidelity Titans at DP World Wanderers, emphatically securing the Hollywoodbets Pro50 title. From the outset, the Lions made it clear they were not in the mood for last-minute drama, shutting the door on any hopes of an upset and ensuring that defending champions, Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies, had no way back into the title race.

During the Jukskei Derby, Cricket South Africa and Hollywoodbets unveiled the Hollywoodbets Pro50 trophy, symbolising the advancement of women’s cricket. The trophy, designed with sleek lines incorporating a cricket bat and ball, reflects the precision and strength needed to excel in the sport.

Meanwhile, in Bloemfontein, Nicolien Janse van Rensburg led the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers with a remarkable five-wicket haul, dismissing the Knights for 215 runs. In response, the Knights countered fiercely, as Gizelle Janse van Rensburg and Luyanda Nzuza claimed 4/17 and 3/16, respectively, bowling out the Badgers for just 99 runs, securing a commanding 116 run victory.

In Cape Town, the Dolphins’ title hopes ended as Western Province chased down a revised target of 77 in 20 overs with ease, winning by 10 wickets thanks to Faye Tunnicliffe and Lara Goodall. The Dolphins could do nothing but watch as the Lions claimed the Hollywoodbets Pro50 trophy.

The 2024/25 season is only the second since the professionalisation of women’s cricket in South Africa, bringing new competition and intensity to the game. Following the Protea Women’s historic ICC T20 World Cup final in 2023, support from the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture and Hollywoodbets’ sponsorship has boosted the league. The Lions’ recent triumph highlights their commitment to success as the women’s game continues to grow.
