Gathered in the school’s gym on July 18, different grades spent their 67 minutes learning new skills and decorating fabric that would be used to complete sensory toys for children.

Kingsmead College’s director of service Karen Landi explained that Mandela Day inspired learners and staff to continue to live a life of service every day. “The learners are making sensory toys for under-resourced early childhood development (ECD) centres in the inner city. We also have our winter warmer collection, in partnership with the Rosebank Management District and the Rosebank homeless shelter.
“In terms of intergenerational volunteering, it’s very important that children are able to volunteer with the elderly.
“Everything is done with great love and great meaning from our Grade 000 to Grade 12 volunteers.”
