Hazardous roadworks on Jan Smuts raise alarm bells in Craighall

Exposed wires and leaking water at a roadworks site in Craighall have sparked safety concerns, with residents calling for urgent action.

A construction site along Jan Smuts Avenue in Craighall is drawing concern from residents and motorists due to a potentially dangerous situation involving exposed wires and water.

The trench, which is located near the corner of St Albans Avenue, has been left open with minimal barriers. Several thick cables are lying among broken concrete and rubble. Water appears to be leaking into the hole, creating a hazardous mix.

There are fears that the cables may be live and that the presence of water could increase the risk of electrocution. The scene is especially worrying for pedestrians who walk along the narrow pavement, as well as for workers who may not be aware of the risk.

The area has been cordoned off with plastic tape, but there is little to stop someone from accidentally stepping too close.
