Parkhurst Fair makes a joyful return after nearly a decade

From yoga at sunrise to live music, street food, art, and even the RUSK-OFF bake-off, Verity Park will come alive on September 27 with triumphant return of the Parkhurst Village Fair after almost a decade.

The heart of Parkhurst is set to beat a little louder this September as the much-loved Parkhurst Village Fair returns to Verity Park for the first time since 2016.

More than just a date on the calendar, the fair has always been woven into the fabric of the neighbourhood, a place where food, music, laughter, and local pride collide. This year, the revival feels especially poignant. After nearly ten years, it isn’t a corporation or external sponsor breathing life into the fair, but the community itself.

Hosted by the Parkhurst Residents and Business Owners Association (Praboa), the 2025 edition is entirely volunteer-driven. Neighbours, entrepreneurs, and entertainers are giving their time and talents to build something that belongs to everyone. From yoga mats at sunrise to live bands and street food at sunset, the fair promises a day that moves to the rhythm of Parkhurst’s people.

While the day will be filled with colour and cheer, including the much-anticipated RUSK-OFF bake-off finals, judged by local rising star Nelia ‘Yaya’ Nglube of Yaya’s Rusks, its roots run deeper. Funds raised will go directly back into community upliftment. A portion of the proceeds will support Praboa’s year-round work keeping Verity Park safe, vibrant, and welcoming, while another will be donated to a local charity, chosen by the fair committee. For Praboa, which is entirely volunteer-run, the fair is an extension of what they do daily, ensuring public spaces remain well-loved and accessible, while amplifying the spirit of togetherness that makes Parkhurst unique.

In the weeks leading up to the event, residents are already finding ways to put their stamp on the fair. A photography competition aims to capture Parkhurst through the eyes of its people, while community and children’s art projects will bring stories to life on canvas. The friendly RUSK-OFF bake-off is also in full swing, with ovens warming and recipes passed down through generations finally being put to the test.

On the day, visitors can expect an eclectic line-up of live music, craft beer, bubbles, raffles, food vendors, pet-friendly fun, a children’s play zone, and quiet corners for adults to unwind. An open-air exhibition of art and photography will also give everyone a chance to see their neighbourhood from new angles.

For many locals, the fair’s return feels like reclaiming a tradition that was sorely missed. For visitors, it is an invitation to experience the charm of a neighbourhood that wears its heart on its sleeve. The Parkhurst Village Fair will take place on September 27, from 10:00 to 20:00 at Verity Park. Tickets are available through Howler, and local businesses and creatives are encouraged to step forward as vendors.

As one Praboa volunteer put it: This fair is Parkhurst at its best, made by us, for us, and open to all.
