Wanderers Sports Club looks forward to hosting its major favourite events in 2026

Wanderers Sports Club remains committed to grassroots development and opening pathways for those who may never have had the chance to play sport.

2025 was a vibrant year for Wanderers Sports Club. The club once again hosted major favourites like the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge and the Wanderers Road Race with Discovery Vitality, drawing record participation.

The club’s CEO, Sonja Shear, confirmed that the two events were already secured for 2026, cementing Wanderers’ position as a premier destination for major sporting occasions.

Shear added that their rugby club continued to show tremendous heart after going through a rocky 2022/2023, steadily rising in the Johannesburg rugby scene while delivering good results.

“Across the club, our athletes have been shining brightly. Many earned national and international accolades and representation, from junior world stages to prestigious club honours at our Sports Recognition Awards.
“The club’s sporting sections continue to nurture young talent and grow participation at every level, and our onsite coaching has proven to yield great results and attract new members.”

The CEO highlighted that they have invested in multiple upgrades, including improving their facilities and enhancing utilities.

“A refreshed member’s lounge offers a perfect blend of work and relaxation space, an upgraded lapa bar at hockey, and a new padel hospitality area are now popular gathering spots.”

Sustainability remains a priority as the club expands with solar power additions and green on-site waste management solutions.

Social bowls has shown growth, bringing people together and offering a new option and transition sport for all ages.

Being ideally located in the corporate hub of Johannesburg, the club’s banqueting offerings are doing well as corporates continue to choose Wanderers to host their company events and team-building functions.

Shear highlighted that the club looked forward to 2026. “We aim to grow women’s sport and attract the next generation of athletes. We will continue to position the club as a family-friendly sports venue that values healthy competition and a sense of belonging.”

Through its sporting sections, the club remains committed to grassroots development, opening pathways for those who may never have had the chance to play or experience sport and be part of a team.
