Norwood Young Stars shine at awards night as young talent is celebrated
From four trophies to a senior-team call-up, Norwood Young Stars’ awards night proved that discipline, development and dreams go hand in hand.
The sound of applause echoed across Paterson Park long before the trophies were lifted, setting the tone for an evening that was about far more than silverware.
On January 16, players of Norwood Young Stars football club gathered with parents, coaches and supporters to celebrate a season of hard work, growth and belief at its annual awards ceremony in Norwood.
Sponsored by the club’s 2016 championship-winning players, alongside the support of SAPS, Lifeline and SPAR, the ceremony was a proud moment for the academy and its wider community.
Parents filled the venue, watching on as young footballers were recognised not only for their performances on the pitch, but for the discipline and commitment shown throughout the season.

The highlight of the night belonged to Tsebo Mphahlele, who delivered a performance worthy of a standing ovation.
The U17 forward walked away with four major honours – Top Goal Scorer, Most Assists, Best Forward and Player of the Season. His achievements were capped off with a promotion to the senior team, a reward for consistency, focus and maturity beyond his years.
As he stepped forward to collect his final trophy, the crowd rose to its feet, many already whispering about his potential future in a Bafana Bafana jersey.

Beyond individual brilliance, the ceremony reflected the academy’s strong sense of family. Former players from the Class of 2016 funded the event as a gesture of gratitude to the club that shaped their own journeys, while SPAR ensured that the youngsters were well fed on the evening.
SAPS and Lifeline’s presence added further meaning, reinforcing the importance of guidance and support in young lives.
The chairperson of Norwood Young Stars, Venita Masisi, said the evening captured the true spirit of the academy.
“We are not only developing footballers, but we are developing young men,” she said. “Discipline, respect and hard work are values we insist on. When our players are recognised, it shows them that their effort matters and that there is a positive path ahead of them.”

Masisi added that the club prides itself on keeping children away from negative influences by giving them structure, purpose and encouragement.
“As a woman chairman, I see these players as my own. We guide them, we protect them, and we celebrate them. Nights like this remind them that they are supported by coaches, parents, and the entire community.”

As the evening drew to a close, there was a clear sense that Norwood Young Stars is doing more than producing results.
With committed coaches, strong leadership and a focus on character, the academy continues to position itself as a breeding ground for future stars – both on and off the field.
