Parktown High School for Girls’ 2026 Representative Council of Learners (RCL) president and head girl, Ngwedi Bogopa, is determined to serve and represent her peers’ voices fairly.
Ngwedi said that the leadership role had been a dream of hers for the longest time. “Word had been going around that I might get the position, but it did little to reassure me. God blessed me with a prayer I kept deep in my heart, and I am so grateful that He made it a reality.”
She is no stranger to leadership roles; she has been part of the RCL since Grade 9 and will also serve as vice-captain for Community Service and for Marimbas, which are two extracurricular activities she’s deeply passionate about.
The head girl explained that the process of her acquiring her leadership role entailed being voted in.

“The process begins with the Grade 11s voting internally for people they see as fit for leadership. Each learner can select up to 40 candidates, including themselves.”
From that vote, 20 people move on to the next stage, learner-led interviews. During these interviews, candidates are awarded points on a rubric based on their school involvement, including community service, extramural participation, and attendance. From there, the top candidates make it onto the final Senior Council.
Ngwedi noted that through her leadership role, she aimed to foster transparency and open communication, helping learners see why they should love and take pride in this institution and how to make the most of everything it has to offer.
“I want to continue to embody kindness and love in everything I do, reflecting Jesus through my leadership. That’s how I will know and remember the ‘how’ and ‘why’ behind everything I do in this position.”
