According to resident Daniel Chetty, the substation has overgrown vegetation, broken gates and inadequate maintenance, with weeds and trees encroaching into his property. Chetty said he has repeatedly reported the issue to City Power, most recently under reference number CP3444334, which was closed despite no officials attending the site or any work being carried out. Contractors allegedly arrived on occasion but were unable to access the substation due to a lack of keys for specialised locks.

The unchecked growth has reportedly led to rats and snails entering his property, with vegetation growing against the boundary walls and encroaching on his swimming pool. Chetty said he has been forced to personally maintain areas surrounding the substation, despite it falling under City Power’s responsibility, and is calling for the matter to be escalated to senior management for urgent intervention.

City Power was approached for comment on January 26, and the story will be updated on January 28, the deadline date given to City Power..
