The Key School for children with autism in Parktown has temporarily closed its doors due to not having water
Johannesburg Water’s Commando system is mostly supplying adequately, and one reservoir is supplying with poor pressure.
While taps continue to run dry around Johannesburg, The Key School for children with autism in Parktown is one of the institutions affected and had to temporarily close its doors due to not having water.
The school principal, Michelle Pellaton, told the publication on February 3 that the suburb had been without water for the past 12 days, “I had to close the school on Friday, January 30, for health and safety reasons.”

Ward 87 councillor Kyle Jacobs said he was aware of the situation.
“The situation has become extremely difficult and untenable due to the challenges experienced at Rand Water, where pumping was affected by technical issues. This, in turn, disrupted water supply to large parts of the city. In addition, Johannesburg Water has been experiencing challenges at the Stafford meter interlink, which assists in boosting supply to higher-lying areas.”
Jacobs added that he has been engaging extensively with Johannesburg Water on the matter.

“While we are beginning to see early signs of recovery in the system, full recovery has not yet been achieved,” noted the councillor.
According to Johannesburg Water’s updates on X, Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs were on bypass and poor pressure is anticipated in certain parts or areas.
