Norwood Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha encourages people to report any suspicious activities.

Norwood Police Station Commander, Colonel Logan Govender applauded members of the station’s crime prevention team.

Station spokesperson Warrant Officer Eric Masotsha said the crime prevention team nabbed a suspect along Louis Botha avenue in Orange Grove. “Sergeant Madimetja Nicolas Mello and Sergeant Fannie Ragotsoka were on duty on March 6 at approximately 16:00. The Norwood SAPS crime prevention members arrested a suspect for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.”

Masotsha added that the members were conducting crime prevention duties when they saw a suspicious vehicle with three occupants. He said the officers stopped the vehicle, identified themselves to the driver and passengers and asked the occupants to get out of the vehicle. “A search was conducted during which a firearm was found inside a brown bag. The owner of the bag was asked to produce a valid firearm license but his response was ‘I don’t have it at all’. The suspect was told he was under arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

An exhibit was booked in the police register as evidence before a court of law. Norwood police and its management appreciate a job well done by the two members.

Masotsha encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the police.
