SAPRA fixes vandalised door of a sub-station in Saxonwold

The two years substation trip in Saxonwold is in working condition.

The Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association has fixed the substation in Saxonwold after the residents were left without power for two nights from April 15 to 16.

Marcelle Ravid, secretary of the Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association (SAPRA) said the area has been experiencing problems with the substation for at least two years. The power outages became worse when stage four load-shedding was introduced. The substation located at the intersection of Cotswold and Engelwold drives, trips constantly.

She reported that the substation is in working order but many others trip often. “City Power uses short-cut methods when they do not have parts and do not do regular maintenance that should be carried out,” said Ravid.

SAPRA is looking into how to assist City Power with these matters so that their residents are not left in the dark with regular power outages outside of load shedding. “I am sure that City Power has a list of how many outages there have been in Saxonwold and Parkwood over the past six months. I would estimate at least twice a month with some residents going as long as 10 days without power,” she said.
