Wiser NPC has made 2024 a year of transformation, touching lives and creating lasting impact through small acts of kindness and empowerment.
As we approach the end of 2024, Wiser NPC stands as a beacon of hope and positive change, having touched countless lives through its impactful community initiatives.
While the organisation remains grounded in its belief that every small act of kindness can make a profound difference, its accomplishments this year are nothing short of inspiring. From providing essential support to vulnerable communities to empowering women and children, Wiser’s efforts reflect a true commitment to making a lasting impact.
“We celebrate every small victory because, to us, each one represents a change in someone’s life,” said Shahista Thokan, the driving force behind Wiser NPC. This ethos has been at the heart of the organisation’s work this year, where they’ve managed to turn vision into action with remarkable results.

Among their many initiatives, Wiser has made substantial strides in supporting women and children. Employment opportunities were created for destitute women, offering them a lifeline and a path toward financial independence. In Tembisa, learners received much-needed school shoes through a heartfelt drive aimed at alleviating the financial burden on families. “Providing for a child’s basic needs can make a world of difference to their self-esteem and future.”.
The organisation’s efforts to uplift single mothers in Everton included providing food hampers and farming supplies, enabling them to care for their families while taking steps towards self-sustainability. “We focus on practical solutions that create long-term benefits.”
Wiser also laid the groundwork for a religious school by investing in a container for educational purposes. This move will enable a rural community to access quality education, empowering the next generation to thrive.
The organisation is not just about material aid but about instilling skills and knowledge. In 2024, the organisation offered free entrepreneurship workshops to empower reverts in their journey toward economic independence. They also conducted educational workshops for underprivileged learners in Lenasia South, opening doors to a brighter future for those who often lack access to quality education.
Thokan emphasises the importance of nurturing skills. “When you equip people with the right tools, you enable them to shape their futures. Our workshops focus on building confidence and competence in the areas that matter most.”

Wiser NPC has also expanded its reach globally, with local and international donations aimed at tackling the water crisis. This global solidarity reflects the organisation’s commitment to helping those in dire need, at home and abroad. In South Africa, Wiser facilitated the purchase of stationery and literature for orphanages, ensuring that every child has the resources they need to learn and grow.
Even beyond borders, Wiser’s work is felt. The maintenance of a burial site in Malawi serves as a poignant reminder that their compassion extends across continents, honouring the dignity of all people.
As the year ends, Wiser NPC’s Christmas wish list emphasises a desire for a more compassionate world. Thokan hopes for an end to genocide and greater kindness towards domestic workers, noting that ‘a little kindness goes a long way’. She also calls for more investment in a community centre to serve as a hub for empowerment and support.
In addition, Thokan hopes for more resources and donations to allow smaller NPCs to scale their work and make even greater strides in uplifting communities.
