The Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association wishes community members a joyous holiday season
Sapra reflected on the achievements of the year, such as hosting a successful Easter picnic and its third Halloween walkabout. The committee would like to wish the members of the Saxonwold and Parkwood communities a joyous holiday season.
The Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association (Sapra) committee is filled with pride and gratitude for the achievements made possible by the unwavering support of its residents and the broader community.
Sapra’s secretary Marcelle Ravid reflected, “This year has been a testament to what we can accomplish together. We have made significant strides in enhancing our local environment and fostering community spirit, planted shrubs and flowers, and removed a substantial amount of rubble from Zoo Lake, contributing to the beautification and cleanliness of this cherished local spot.”
Ravid added that the association’s efforts extended to repainting over 50 stop signs, crossings, and humps, and cleaning verges throughout the year, ensuring the neighbourhoods remained safe and visually appealing.

Sapra’s fundraising initiatives were equally successful. The committee raised a commendable amount to support the town planning portfolio, Zoo Lake beautification, and ringfenced Fearnhead Park’s upgrade project.
“This demonstrates the power of collective effort in addressing community needs. Additionally, we created a community WhatsApp group which now boasts over 400 members, facilitating better communication and engagement among residents,” shared the secretary.
The association also partnered with the Johannesburg Zoo to introduce the Zoo Walkers pass. For R100 per annum Sapra families can walk in the zoo on Wednesday afternoons.
Community events have been a highlight of the year:
• An Easter Picnic was hosted, where a generous number of eggs were donated, bringing joy to many, and
• The third annual Halloween walkabout was a resounding success, with over 700 children participating, enjoying a load of donated treats.

Bill Haslam, chairperson of Sapra, said, “The collective effort and dedication of our community has been truly inspiring. Together, we have made a tangible difference, and I am excited to see what we can achieve in the coming year.”
